Zambia is renowned for having some of the best safari guides in Africa, a reputation built on the rigorous training and qualification process they undergo. Becoming a guide in Zambia requires passing challenging exams, completing extensive practicals, and undertaking detailed assignments. In order to become a fully qualified guide in Zambia, individuals have to complete 3 levels:
– Level 3: Road transfer and boating.
– Level 2: Game drive.
– Level 1: Walking and canoeing.

Moses (Head Guide)
Moses, easily recognizable by his infectious laugh, is our Head Guide at Zambezi Grande. Having joined us in 2021, he is extremely passionate about safari, making him a cornerstone of our lodge’s guiding experience.
Activities: Game drives, walking safari, fishing and boating.
Number of years guiding: 11 years.
Been with Zambezi Grande: Since 2021.
Favourite animal: ”This answer may be unexpected but I love baboons, also known as the “branch managers” of the bush. They’re my favourite because of their entertaining social behavior and ability to signal the presence of predators. I could sit and watch them for hours and never get bored.”
Given
Given has earned the nickname “The King Fisher” from his colleagues due to his reputation as a brilliant fishing guide in the Lower Zambezi region. His calm confidence and unmatched expertise make him a favourite amoung anglers.
Activities: Fishing and boating.
Number of years guiding: 11 years.
Been with Zambezi Grande: Since 2019.
Favourite animal: ”The leopard is my favourite animal because of it’s impressive hunting ability. These animals are solitary so are often spotted alone, unless it’s mating time, making it extra special to see a male and female together.
Morat
Known for his quick wit and sense of humour, Morat is a veteran in the safari industry with nearly three decades of guiding experience in Zambia’s Lower Zambezi and Kafue National Parks.
Activities: Game drives, fishing and boating.
Number of years guiding: 29 years.
Been with Zambezi Grande: Since 2023.
Favourite animal: ”Baboons! Especially when in troops. Their social interactions make them very interesting animals to watch.”
Solomon (Solly)
Solomon’s journey at Zambezi Grande has been a special one. He joined the lodge in 2017 as a barman before transitioning to front-of-house service and later studying to become a guide. Currently preparing to complete his walking safari and canoeing exams, Solomon is set to become fully qualified in 2025.

Been with Zambezi Grande: Since 2017.
Favourite animal: ”Wild Dogs, also known as Painted Wolves. I’ve fallen in love with these animals due to their impressive hunting ability. Their success rate is 80%, higher than any other large predator like lions or leopards. Their social behaviour is also interesting as they care for one another.”
Honest
Always seen sporting his favourite safari hat, Honest’s calm demeanour makes him an excellent companion for fishing excursions—especially for beginners looking to try their hand at angling on the Zambezi River.

Favourite animal: ”It has to be a leopard. They are graceful, powerful predators and are just so beautiful.”
Ackim
Ackim brings over two decades of guiding experience across Zambia’s Lower Zambezi and Kafue National Parks to Zambezi Grande’s team. Known for his kind nature and wealth of knowledge, Ackim is especially skilled at answering bird-related questions, making him a go-to guide for birding enthusiasts.
