This year’s Earth Day falls on 22 April and whether you know it or not, we should all be doing more to help protect it and its resources. With Earth Day aiming to promote the safeguarding of our environment, it’s only right that we share some awareness around the topic and encourage you to do the same. Here are four things you can do to make a difference to the world around us and leave as little footprint on the environment as possible.
- Save the bees
The world’s bee population is in trouble and that means our food source and the human race are too. Bees are responsible for around 80% of global pollination, supplying 90% of the world’s nutrition. This means a life without bees is a scary one. Thanks to drought, pollution, habitat destruction, global warming and the use of pesticides, this life could become a reality. What can you do? Plant bee-friendly plants like wildflowers to help welcome them.
- Reduce your meat intake
The meat industry has played a huge part in the negative impacts of climate change. By committing to going meatless one day a week, you could make a small yet important difference. If you like, go meatless one meal a day and consume even less. Every bit helps and these days, there are some incredible meatless meals to be made and enjoyed. This means you don’t have to sacrifice on flavour!
- Save energy
Less conventional electricity use equals fewer carbon emissions. Less carbon means greater conservation of the earth’s resources. So be sure to switch off lights when you leave a room, install those low energy lightbulbs and don’t leave appliances on when you’re not using them.
- Say no to single-use plastics
That disposable coffee cup lid and drinking straw have greater implications than we realise. It’s why committing to stop single-use plastics is key. By doing so, we can protect our world’s oceans and its marine life. Switch plastic food wrap to trendy bees wax wraps and invest in some fabric shopper bags so that you don’t have to use ones from the store.
Conserve our earth so that we can continue to enjoy it and its creatures
